Korean Wave! Korea and Jeju Island

It snowed a lot last weekend. The next day many schools and kindergartens were closed so I didn't go to work. It is rare to see lots of snow in Jeju city except county sides in the winter.This winter it snowed a lot and the temparature fell to four degrees below zero so the water pipes of lots of houeses were frozen and even some areas had no power. The water pipe in my house has also frozen so my family and I had a hard time for a few days. Fortunately last Monday afternoon we could use the water. If it didn't start working again, We would have gone to my parents' house. The next day in the morning, on the way to work I was worried about the slippery road. But the snow has quickly melted by the warm weather. Now it is raining, instead of the snow!

Whenever I say a few words in front of the parents at each entrance ceremony of the daycare center where I work, I also feel nervous. I used to forget what to say. Next year I will say a few words again in front of the parents and their children. I hope that I will be able to go through with it without feeling nervous. "Hi! I am Laura, a homeroom teacher of the Joy class. I remember this day last year, when my children first came to the daycare centre, they were unfamiliar with their new surroundings so they searched for their moms and dads. Now they attend and bow when they come in. The thought of facing the new children today made my heart flutter. I will look after them like their mothers and I will do my best for them to grow healthy and with lots of joy."

I often read picture books for children at work, a daycare center. I teach them good manners such as table manners, getting along with friends and other good things from the books. I don't think that only children should read the picture books. Although most of picture books were published for children, I was also moved byt the story. For some reason picture books touch adults as well as kids. Today I read a book called Dot. A child who doesn't like art class put a dot on a piece of paper and submitted it to his teacher during art class. He looked angry. Then his teacher said "Write your name". The next day when the child went to school, he saw his framed picture on the wall. He was very surprised. He just put a dot on the middle of paper in anger but his teacher thought it as a work of art. Since he then made various forms of dots and his school continued to display his works. This afternoon I went to a movie theater to watch '베테랑'. My husbsnd recommened the movie. I didn't expect it would be very funny and nice. After watching it, I could see why so many people watched it. I gurantee the film will record 10 million viewers soon.

It was also very hot yesterday, but it was great to play in the water. I went to Hamdok beach with my family. On the way it was rainy a lot, when we arrived there, it wasn't rainy. On a hot summer day like today, it would be best for children to swim in the water. There are many beaches and pools in Jeju island. My family and I went to Dodoo, which has big pools for children to play in the water and a long and cold waterway to bathe one's feet. The admission for a child is 5,000won and for an adult,2000won per day. A lot of children and their parents were already there. Fortunately there was still a small place for us to sit. When my kids played in the water, my husband and I put our feet in the waterway to cope with the hot weather. Many people put their feet in the water or were having some food while their kids were playing in the pool. The water was cold so it made us feel cool too. My children lost track of time while playing in the water. People say that life starts at forty. It must be an important moment. Before I was forty, I started learning foreign languages again. I already had one foot in a different world so I want to have more experience and learn more about the world. 불혹의 나이 ‘마흔 살’. 마흔 살 부터가 진정한 인생의 시작이라고 말해요. 그만큼 중요한 시기임이 틀림없어요. 제가 마흔이 되기 전 제 자신을 위해 잘 했다고 생각하는 것은 외국어 공부를 다시 시작했다는 거예요. 다른 세상으로 통하는 문으로 한발자국 내딛었다는 거예요. 그래서 새해에는 더 많은 경험과 세상의 이치를 깨닫고 싶어요.
