Jeju Fire Festival in Korea, '제주 들불축제'

Mar 9, 2015 Last weekend I had a good time with my family. We went to Sabyel Oreum(새별오름) to enjoy the Jeju Fire Festival. Every year Jeju province holds the festival in hopes of a good harvest. Sabyel has the story of a bird flew into the sky and became into a star. I attended the parade to fire the sheaves with a torch last year, but I just watched it from far away this year. Even though I was far away, I could feel the heat in my face. The burning oreum was very nice and the fireworks was also great! Next day, when I passed away the Sabyel oreum by car, I saw the burned and black oreum. I hope to see the Jeju Fire Festival next year again. Let me show you the Jeju Fire Festival that I took video shoots and pictures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nwpETpXl0Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh-2biUlsPY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLc8ke2CI6c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R5X1VEUrgI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3MWRB1twJg 지난 주말에 저는 가족들과 즐거운 시간을 보냈어요. 우리는 들불출제를 보러 새별오름에 갔어요. 매년 제주도 풍년을 기원하며 축제를 열어요. 새별은 ‘새가 하늘로 날아가 별이 되었다는 이야기를 가지고 있어요. 저는 작년에 횃불을 가지고 짚을 태우기 위한 행렬에 참여했지만, 올해는 단지 멀리 떨어져서 구경했어요. 비록 멀리 떨어져있었는데도, 제 얼굴에서 열기를 느낄 수 있었어요. 그 불타오르는 오름은 정말 멋졌고, 불꽃놀이 또한 정말 끝내줬어요. 다음날 차로 새별오름을 지나갔을 때 전 검게 불탄 오름을 봤어요. 내년에도 들불축제를 또 보고싶어요. 제가 촬영한 비디오와 찍은 사진들을 보여줄게요.

How to make Meju, '메주 만드는 법'

Have you ever had Korean food? I think that most countries have their own special sauces to cook with. Korea also has special and traditional sauces like soy sauce (ganjang, 간장), soybean paste (doenjang, 된장), and red pepper paste (gochujang, 고추장). To make doenjang, gochujang, and ganjang, we have to make the blocks of fermented soybeans (Meju, 메주). When I was a child, I often saw my mom making them. But now I am used to buying the sauces, instead of making them! *How to make Meju, '메주'* ---------------- 1. Prepare yellow soybeans and keep them soaked in water for about 8 hours. 2. Boil yellow soybeans for about 6 hours. 3. Mash boiled yellow soybeans. 4. Put them into a box to make the block shape and press it well. 5. Put the Meju to in a room to dry for a few days. 6. There's an old saying that says even brushing past a person is one's karma. Buddhism says that it's very difficult to meet again in this life time if there isn't a special connection in a previous life. Haven't you ever come across a person by chance without making promises on the earth living billions of people? The unit of brushing past a person is 'Gup' this means the time from the beginning of the world to next beginning of the world. It takes 500gup to brush past a person.
