Memories of the late singer, Kim Guang Suk, '고 김광석 가수에 대한 추억'

Feb 5, 2013. Yesterday was the first day of spring. After putting 2 sheets of paper written in '立春大吉' and '建陽多慶' on the gate at 1:13a.m., I couldn't fall asleep so I watched a program on TV. On the show, there were some people, including singers, composers, and MC's, talking about there memories of the late Kim Guang Suk. He was a famous singer that died 15 years ago. Every year a special concert is held to commemorate the anniversary of his death. One singer recalled that he always kept his composure during his concerts. I also think that, too. When I was a senior in college, I saw his concert at the university festival. When he was tuning his guitar before the show, one of the strings suddenly broke. But he didn't look embarrassed. With a smile, he said, "A guitar string broke. I usually carry extra strings. I just need to change it". He then easily changed it. I was surprised by his easygoing demeanor. His voice and singing still live in my heart. When I miss his singing, I sometimes watch his videos on YouTube. **** 어제는 입춘이었어요. 새벽 1시13분에 ‘입춘대길'과 '건양다경’이 쓰여진 두 장의 종이를 붙인 후에 잠이 오지 않아서 TV를 켜서 어느 프로그램을 시청했어요. 몇몇 가수와 작곡가가 나와 이미 고인이 된 김광석 씨와의 추억을 떠올리며 이야기를 하고 있었어요. 그분은 한때 유명한 가수였는데, 15년 전에 돌아가셨어요. 매년 그분을 추모하기 위한 콘서트가 열렸어요. 한 가수가 그분에 대해 회상하면서 말하기를 그분은 공연할 때 당황하지 않고 여유 있게 노래를 불렀다고 해요. 저도 그렇게 생각해요. 제가 대학축제 때 그분의 라이브 공연을 본 적이 있어요. 그때 그분은 노래를 부르기 전에 기타를 꺼내 연습으로 줄을 튕기다가 그만 기타 줄이 끊어졌어요. 그런데 그분은 당황한 기색이 없었어요. “줄이 끊어졌네요. 평상시 저는 여분의 기타 줄을 갖고 다녀요. 줄만 갈면 돼요.” 그는 웃으면서 말했고 느긋하게 새 기타 줄로 교환했어요. 저는 그분의 그런 여유 있는 모습에 깜짝 놀랐어요. 아직도 그분의 목소리와 노랫소리가 제 마음속에 남아있어요. 그분의 노랫소리가 그리울 때 유튜브에서 그분의 동영상을 보곤 해요.

How to make Meju, '메주 만드는 법'

Have you ever had Korean food? I think that most countries have their own special sauces to cook with. Korea also has special and traditional sauces like soy sauce (ganjang, 간장), soybean paste (doenjang, 된장), and red pepper paste (gochujang, 고추장). Buddhism says that it's very difficult to meet again in this life time if there isn't a special connection in a previous life.
