Korean Mask, Tal , '한국 탈!'

There are various kinds of masks in Korea. Have you ever heard ‘탈’? “탈” means 'mask' in Korean. Let me introduce the Hahoe Tal in Andong city. The Hahoe Tal is the only set of masks designated as a national treasure (No.121). It is highly regarded highly as a masterpiece in the area of mask art as well as a Korean cultural asset. There were 14 masks in the Hahoe Tal : Two Jusi Tal, Gaksi Tal, Yangban Tal, Seonbi Tal, Jung Tal, Baekjeong Tal, Choraengi Tal, Halmi Tal, Imae Tal, Bune Tal, Chonggak Tal, Byeochae Tal and Ddeodari Tal. But Byeochae Tal, Ddeodari Tal and Chonggak Tal were lost and not handed down. Some of Hahoe Tal, Yangban Tal, Seonbi Tal, Jung Tal and Baekjeong Tal have a special function: they have movable lower jaws, while other masks don't For example, if a performer, wearing a mask, bends his head back, his mouth will open wide so that he looks like he is smiling. If he bends his head forward, his mouth will close so he looks angry. ................. 한국에는 다양한 종류의 탈이 있어요. 예전에 탈을 들어본 적 있나요? 탈은 영어로 마스크를 의미해요. 제가 안동시에 있는 하회탈을 소개할게요. 하회탈은 국보 제21호로 유일하게 국보로 지정되었어요. 하회탈은 한국 문화적 자산뿐만 아니라 가면미술 분야에서 걸작으로 평가받고 있어요. 하회탈에는 주지탈 2개, 각시탈, 양반탈, 선비탈, 중탈, 백정탈, 초랭이탈, 할미탈, 이매탈, 부네탈, 총각탈, 별채탈, 떡다리탈로 14개 있었어요. 그러나 별채탈, 떡다리탈, 총각탈은 분실되어 전해지지 않아요. 하회탈 중에서 양반탈, 선비탈, 중탈, 백정탈은 다른 탈에서는 없는 분리된 턱을 갖고 있기 때문에 특별한 기능을 갖고 있어요. 예를 들면, 탈을 쓰고 있는 연기자가 고개를 뒤로 젖히면 탈은 입이 크게 벌어져 웃는 모습이 되어요. 연기자가 고개를 숙이면 그의 입은 닫혀져 화난 것처럼 보여요.
